What's on this week?

Good morning. Welcome to a new week!

Last week ended up being unexpectedly exciting with the release of the Floret documentary series, The Beautiful Pursuit, which Georgie (and Teacake) featured in. If you missed this news, you can read more about it here. If you’ve watched the series we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

So, what’s on this week?

There’s still chance to book your place on a brand new demo that we’ve added to the programme this year, The Shrubs and Perennials for Cut Flower Arrangements Demo. This takes place tomorrow, Tuesday 11th March at 5pm online (we record the session if you can’t join live).

Increasingly, shrubs and perennials are becoming an important crop (we talked about this in the most recent club chat, where the topic was resilience in the face of climate change) and it’s a demo followers have been requesting - so here it is! Join Georgie for this inspiring demo and she’ll take you through the principles you can apply when choosing shrubs and perennials for cutting. She will also give you great ideas and resources, and tips for managing your collection once it’s planted to ensure years of plenty of cut material throughout the season.

Tuesday is also your last chance to order the recording of our recent Pricing Cut Flowers To Sell Workshop. We will be repeating this session in September, but if you want guidance and tips on how to charge for your stems this season this recording could be invaluable to you. All the details here.

And here are a couple of reviews from people who recently attended the session:

"This was such a great course. I was expecting general help with pricing but this was so much more detailed than that, giving concrete pricing that I can put straight into practice. It also, unexpectedly, really helped me clarify my strategy and what I should and shouldn’t be growing to sell."

"Georgie Newbery is way more than a Flower Farmer; she is a teacher to the core of her being! You will forever utilise the instruction given. I have attended two online workshops so far, Career Change Flower Farming and Pricing Cut Flowers To Sell, both perfectly partnered to purchase as a bundle. Georgie demonstrates a fully rationalized approach to flower farming, cultivated with humor and grace. You will finish your time with her understanding fully, the practical skills and mindset necessary to continue on your journey with confidence. You will also feel a visceral uplifting energy accompanying the astute insight this wonderful lady shares. Co-creation at its best!"

The club Live At Five returns on Thursday with the Common Farm Flowers Book Club. To explain, if you are a paid subscriber here on Substack you are automatically a member of our club. One of the (many) benefits of being a paid subscriber are our weekly Live At Five sessions with Georgie. Clubbers choose the topics and send in their questions and Georgie then spends an hour or so each week (term time) discussing and answering them. We also have some regular termly sessions, including the book club. It’s a chance to recommend books we’ve read recently, encourage each other in good learning habits. The book list will be put up in a post for clubbers and we’ll all be able to add to it. We thought we’d have a podcast / YouTube / Substack list to recommend to one another too.

Of course, we’ve lots more online demos coming up as the season gets going - you can see our full calendar here. And we’ve the first workshop of the year at the farm later in March - with just a handful of places left to join Georgie at the new studio for the Career Change Flower Farming Workshop.

Do ask about anything that isn’t clear and Georgie and I will be very happy to help. Meanwhile, have a lovely start to the week everyone.
