What's happening in April? Opportunities to join Georgie this month

Our seasons starts officially on 1st April! The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed the occasional arrangement going out over the last few weeks but it’s from 1st April that we also start our wedding offerings and rely almost exclusively on the farm to supply us with all we need to supply our customers from now through until the end of September.

As the polytunnel and cut flower beds start to fill up, so does our diary of demos that involve flower arranging! And in April we have several of those, of a very different nature, available to you.

As a reminder, our demos take place online at 5pm (from this weekend, British Summer Time). If you can’t join live, we record the sessions and send them out to you shortly afterwards so you don’t need to miss out. And if you are a paid subscriber on Substack, one of the perks is a 10% discount on any of our workshops and demos.

So, what do we have coming up? Here’s a brief run through of the month ahead:

Tuesday 8th April The Spring Hand Tie Demo

Learn how to make a gorgeous hand-tied bouquet with the classic florist’s twist in a live demo with Georgie. If you grow flowers for cutting in your garden, then this is a great demo for you to take part in as the season begins. Georgie is a very clear teacher and takes her time to make sure you can replicate every step she takes as she makes one of her own classic bouquets with gorgeous spring flowers.

(This demo is also available as part of a discounted bundle along with our Cutting and Conditioning Demo. See our Hand Tied Demo Duo here.)

Tuesday 22nd April The Funeral Sheaf Demo

It is a great compliment to be asked to create flowers for funerals, and since 2009 Georgie has been creating sheafs of flowers for coffins using neither floral foam, nor wire. The funeral flowers Georgie creates use simple sustainable floristry techniques, and in this demo she will show you how you too can make such flowers as tributes and for sympathy. Suitable for both professional florists and people who love to design with flowers for friends and family.

Tuesday 29th April The Bridal Party Demo

The Bridal Party Flowers Demo is a detailed online session for people planning to create their own (or a friends) bridal party flowers. Georgie will talk you through cutting and creating a handtied bride’s bouquet, a bridesmaid’s posy, and a buttonhole in this demo. Using flowers and foliage she’s cut from the farm she’ll give you top tips for stem counts, design balance, conditioning, and timing as well as how to make the most of the flowers on the wedding day itself.

Wednesday 30th April The Prepping Wedding Flowers Demo

If you’re planning to cut and arrange your own wedding flowers from your garden join Georgie for this online demo. During the session, Georgie will show you how you can work out your stem count for cutting, she'll discuss your timings for conditioning and floristry, and give you top tips for getting the flowers done in plenty of time before the wedding.

You will save yourself a small fortune by doing wedding flowers yourself: this session will manage your expectations, inspire and enable you to make a success of wedding flowers cut from your own garden.

The above two demos are available to buy together as a discounted bundle here. We have a fantastic selection of wedding and event flower demos and workshops coming up - you can see the full list here.

As well as our online demos, our Club Live At Fives (for paid subscribers on Substack) start again after the Easter break (24th April) when we will talk about set up costs and kit lists. This session will be of interest to flower farmers and aspiring flower farmers, but is also bound to include tips useful to those of us (including me) who love to grow cut flowers for pleasure. We’ve another session on 31st April - topic tbc. We will publish the full list of topics for the new term here on Substack soon.

Our first term of sessions here on Substack was great fun - with 11 sessions held on a range of different subjects, with some great questions and contributions from Clubbers. We hope you feel it’s great value too, at around £5.40 a month if you subscribe for the year.

So that is how the month ahead is shaping up. No doubt there will be lots more news from Georgie soon about what she’s doing out on the farm in April and some video clips too as the cut flower patches start to burst into life.

Do ask if you’ve questions about any of the upcoming sessions or about becoming a paid subscriber. We are always more than happy to help.

Have a lovely week everyone,

Nicola
